Deferred 1031 Exchange

A deferred 1031 exchange allows an investor to take the gains from the sale on one property and reinvest it into another property, deferring payment of capital gains tax on the original sale. The money from the sale is held in a trust throughout the course of the exchange, which can take no longer than 180 days to complete. There are other qualifications involving the candidate or replacement properties that an investor chooses to put his money into. If all qualifications are met, and the exchange is carried out successfully, the capital gains tax on the initial sale will be deferred.
